USCIS to Finish More than 1 Million Naturalization Applications for 2008Apr 2, 2008 On April 2, 2008, the USCIS announced that it will finish more than one million naturalization cases during fiscal year 2008, which is 36 percent more than the prior year. The agency also recently updated the expected time it will take to complete naturalization cases, projecting an average processing time of 13 to 15 months. This is a three month improvement from the 16 to 18 month projection that USCIS made six months ago. The USCIS has been trying to handle the influx of its cases by adding nearly 3000 new employees. Last summer, the USCIS received an unprecedented number of applications and petitions for immigration benefits. During June, July and August alone, USCIS received nearly three million filings, compared to 1.8 million filings during the same period last year (460,000 in July alone). |
