Immigration Detention ReformsAug 6, 2009 Assistant Secretary John Morton of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced substantial steps to overhaul the immigration detention system. ICE currently has 32,000 detention beds at any given time that are spread out over 350 different facilities.
In the next three to five years ICE will design facilities located and operated for immigration detention purposes. A copy of the press release is attached.
