The Senate continues to debate immigration reform this week. The base bill for consideration is Senator Frist's enforcement-heavy bill, the Securing America's Borders Act (S. 2454). However, Senator Specter introduced the Judiciary Committee's comprehensive bill as a substitute amendment last Thursday. Cloture votes on both bills could come as early as Thursday. The Senate Judiciary Committee's Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006 will need 60 Yes Votes in order to pass and these 16 Senators have yet to clearly state whether they will pledge support for the most comprehensive package of all of the Senate proposals.
