 
 
  
 
   
   
As of June 23, 2006, the USCIS counted 11,918 US advanced degree exemption petitions. Out of this number 3,740 were approved and 8,178 were pending. As of June 23, there were an additional 800 US advanced degree exemption petitions received but not yet data-entered. There is a cap of 20,000 each fiscal year for those who have graduated from a US institution with an advanced degree. The 58,200 cap for the regular H-1B program (for those with a bachelor's degree)was reached this year on 5/26/2006 (although the USCIS announced the cap being reached after the fact). 6,800 visas are set aside under the H-1B1 U.S.-Chile and U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreements.
